Fernando Moreira

AMPWDA Trainer (Mantracking)

For more than 40 years, Fernando Moreira has followed the footsteps of others, leaving in his trail thousands of trained trackers from military, law enforcement, to Search and Rescue Teams from around the World. He is a long time member of the Washoe County Sheriff Department.

He initially became interested in the art of man-tracking at age of 11 years old, when he was introduced to visual mantracking by his father who served as a combat tracker in the war in Africa. Fernando also had a chance to take several classes from the bush man and the Rhodesian military on how they train the Portuguese military.

He has utilized his skill in tracking on a nearly daily basis for the many years that he has been involved with law enforcement and with various Search & Rescue teams. Currently, Fernando is a member of eight (8) Search & Rescue teams as a tracker and also works with several law enforcement SWAT agencies as a scout tracker. During the summer, he works as a scout tracker in drug field operations for several law enforcement agencies across the United States.

Fernando has assisted local law enforcement officers in finding crucial evidence in several high-profile investigations, most notable, the case against Siaosi Vanisi, who brutally murdered a campus police officer, George Daniel Sullivan, in 1997. He also has used his mantracking skills on numerous cases involving serial killers, bank robbers, child abductions, manhunts and more. Fernando has been involved in over 15,000 missions involving tracking and this number continues to grow each year as his services on in great demand. Fernando also holds certifications for PSD Diver, Swift Water Rescuer, Back Country, SAR tech II, Technical Rope, and Mine Rescue. Fernando Moreira would like to share the basics of what he has learned over the years with you.
